Santhra Thambidurai
Educator and Founder
Numeracy Coach
I have two lifelong passions: empowering children through Mathematics & Mindset and Dance—and I have been consistently pursuing both my entire life.
At Rutgers, while pursuing my degree in Statistics/Mathematics, and Psychology, I started tutoring underprivileged children in the outskirts of NB, NJ. I also found community in RU UNICEF, RU Bhangra, Indian Christian Fellowship, and Catholic Students’ Association. My leadership in RU UNICEF even earned me “Leader of the Year” by UNICEF USA.
After graduating with Honors in Statistics, I landed a job at a top Health & Benefits Actuarial Firm. But a few months in, staring at a Google Spreadsheet, I had a realization: My heart wasn’t in this. It was in teaching.
I left the corporate world, pursued an Accelerated Master’s at TCNJ, and began my teaching journey. From Kreps to the top 5% ranked West Windsor-Plainsboro School District, I taught and inspired advanced learners for 7 years, earning a reputation as a highly effective educator. My students’ AP scores spoke volumes about my dedication.
Then, motherhood changed everything. When my first child was born, I wanted more flexibility. At 7 months postpartum, I started my online tutoring business, and within 4 months, I filled up my schedule—with a limited social media presence. Over the first 5 years, while being my children’s primary caregiver, I matched my full-time income working half the hours.
4,000+ one-on-one tutoring hours. Hundreds of students. From Palo Alto, Evergreen Valley, WW-P, Princeton, Montgomery, Hillsborough, Edison, Westminster Schools, Peddie, Monroe, South Brunswick, Oakton High and other top districts, families found me through word of mouth and referrals—a testament to my work.
My drive to help my students perform better is evident in my AP scores. 100% of my students earned a 4 or a 5 on the AP Statistics Exam compared to 28.8 % of all Exam takers.
My latest SAT student from Montgomery High School, NJ had a 240 point increase after 12 classes. The most recent student who I tutored in AP Stat from Hillsborough High School (NJ) had a 76% when he started with me in November. He ended the year with an A and was exempt from his final.
““It is a proven fact that students rise to the expectations of their teachers – and Ms. Thambidurai is a teacher with high expectations. When I was a student in her AP Stats class, Ms. Thambidurai made clear not only her drive to help her students excel and her caring attitude, but also her belief that every student could master the material. Combined with her expertise in statistics and as an educator, Ms. Thambidurai was one of the best teachers I had during my time in high school, and from her I learned what “doing my best” really meant: genuine pride in my work and an intrinsic sense of self-worth. I carried this work ethic with me through college, and it has been valuable not only in my academics, but in my job performance and my connections with others. I would highly recommend Ms. Thambidurai as an educator.” – Shannon Sheu
