The Numeracy Project

What is The Numeracy Project?

When students know why what they’re learning is important, they become more engaged and invested in mastery. I have seen first-hand how the shock at learning how subjects like Statistics and Calculus translate to careers in medicine turn into a renewed motivation and appreciation for the math.

By Class

Algebra

Algebra uses symbols and equations to represent and solve problems, forming a foundation for all higher-level math.

Geometry

Geometry explores shapes, space, and spatial relationships, revealing how lines, angles, and figures fit together.

Calculus

Calculus introduces the concepts of limits, derivatives, and integrals to model and understand change over time.

Statistics

Statistics teaches us to collect, analyze, and interpret data to uncover patterns and make informed decisions.

Stochastic Calculus

Stochastic Calculus expands traditional calculus by incorporating randomness, critical for financial models and systems with uncertainty.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry examines angles and side lengths in triangles, offering tools to measure and describe periodic or circular phenomena.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who am I?

I have spent over a decade in the field of mathematical education, both as a teacher in a blue-ribbon school district in New Jersey and also as a private tutor for students virtually. Between the stresses of the curriculum, standardized testing, grading, and parents, I have felt that being able to meaningfully connect the mathematical concepts I teach to a student’s passions and future has been a blind spot.  Yet I remain more convinced than ever that math is fundamental to the future of work, and that every child, given the right motivation and tools, is capable of excelling in math.  My work these days is focused on helping students overcome their self-limiting beliefs and excelling in comprehension that will help them achieve their goals.

What do I want to do?

I want to chat with the users of math across all industries and disciplines to discern and distill how math plays a role in their worlds, and funnel this knowledge back to the hands of the teachers, parents and students who are working to shape the next generation.
