Episode 9: Math in Construction feat. Shari Bruyn
For those of you who enjoyed Episode 7, Math in Woodworking, we’re doing a deep dive into the applications of Geometry in Construction, straight from an Illinois high school math teacher who teaches it!
Check out the 5 Minute Highlights Reel
The fearless Shari Bruyn discusses how, with little knowledge of Construction, was able to put together what is essentially a Geometry 2 course which covers how to use concepts like Surface Area, Pythagorean theorem, Transversals, and Angle bisects in the construction of cornhole boards and bed frames.
Furthermore, she embeds financial literacy in terms of understanding the costs of all the required tools and materials, as well as how to use those tools and materials to produce a finished product which can then be sold for a profit (to at least cover the initial costs).
She is an example of someone who has a passion and is not afraid to seek out the resources and support to take an idea and see it through to completion.
I hope you enjoy the interview!
